At the end of December, Northwest Oregon was hit especially hard with a major snowstorm and ensuing freeze, just as we all were preparing for the holidays. Snow is not an unusual event here in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, but what was less expected was both the amount of snow and how long it stayed on the ground. There was an accumulation of up to six feet in some places, but minimal damage. The entire farm went into “snow mode” and while the lovely white landscape was fun for a while, we were all – especially the horses – eventually happy to get back to our normal routine.
